Passion Project - Tabletop Styling

Props for Food

There's something magical about the synergy that arises when a group of friends with diverse skills and shared passions come together to create something extraordinary. Free from the constraints of client directives or commercial agendas, these passion projects are fueled by creativity, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to bringing a shared vision to life. In this blog post, we'll explore the journey of one such passion project – tabletop styling - a labor of love born out of total creative freedom.

It all began with a spark – Natalie Jodwalis was on a journey to bring visuals to life for her upcoming cookbook, which ignited the imaginations of everyone involved, including photographer Daniel Fitzpatrick, whose attention to detail is unmatched. We had a recipe developer, a location, a photographer, and 3 stylists (myself, Natalie, and Brittany Fitzpatrick) with varying aesthetics committed to making something great.

As we began to brainstorm and bounce ideas off one another, the project took shape organically, with each person bringing their unique perspective and skill set to the table (no pun intended)! There were no rules, no boundaries – just a shared commitment to exploring new possibilities and pushing the limits of what was creatively possible.

Pairing a stunning creative space at Hubbard Street Lofts in the West Loop with all things tabletop, everyone brings items from their collections. Fresh flowers, linens, dishware, flatware, and other natural elements formed the basis of our project. Collaboration was key, with each person offering feedback, support, and encouragement to their fellow creators.

Of course, no creative endeavor is without its challenges, and this passion project was no exception. There were moments of self-doubt, should we be working this closely during a time when we were ordered to stay home? We felt we had no choice. The journey was as much about personal growth as it was about creative expression.

The result was more than just a finished product – it was a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and the unwavering pursuit of one's passions.

In a world often dictated by deadlines, budgets, and client directives, passion projects offer a rare opportunity to explore the boundless depths of our creativity free from constraints or expectations.

So if you find yourself longing to embark on a creative journey of your own, don't wait for permission or validation – gather your friends, embrace your creative freedom, and let your imagination run wild. Who knows what you'll discover along the way?
